Frequently Asked Questions

🧠 What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy (OT) helps children build the skills they need for everyday life — things like play, learning, self-care, and emotional regulation.
For many of the families I work with, OT supports children with autism, ADHD, sensory processing differences, and developmental challenges to build confidence, independence, and joy in daily routines.

🎯 How do I know if my child might benefit from OT?

You might notice your child struggling with things like:
• Focus or attention
• Fine-motor tasks (e.g. handwriting, using cutlery, dressing)
• Big emotions or frustration
• Social skills or transitions between tasks

If these sound familiar, OT can help identify what’s behind the challenge and create strategies that fit your child’s strengths and needs.

👶 What age group do you work with?

I primarily support children aged 2–18 years, though I also work with young adults developing independence and daily-living skills during transitions to high school or adulthood.

💬 What does a typical session look like?

Sessions are playful, flexible, and guided by your child’s goals.
We might start with movement or sensory input to support regulation, then focus on a targeted skill like handwriting, problem-solving, or social play — always ending with reflection and home practice ideas.
No two sessions are ever the same!

🏡 Where do sessions take place?

Therapy can happen where your child feels most comfortable and supported:

  • 🏠 At home

  • 🏫 At school, kindergarten, or childcare (if permitted)

  • 🌳 In community settings such as playgrounds or libraries

  • 💻 Online via Telehealth

This helps therapy translate naturally into real-world situations.

💳 What funding can I use?

I accept:
NDIS (Self-Managed or Plan-Managed)
Private payment (out-of-pocket)
Medicare CDM / GP Care Plans (up to 5 partially rebated sessions per year)
Private health insurance (if Occupational Therapy is covered)

(I’m not currently able to see NDIA-Managed participants.)

🕐 How long are OT sessions?

Most sessions are 50 minutes + 10 minutes of note writing, though this can vary depending on your child’s age, attention span, and goals.
Shorter sessions can be arranged for younger clients, and longer blocks are available for assessments or school visits.

🧾 Do you charge for travel or paperwork?

Yes — travel and administrative time are billed in line with NDIS guidelines.
This includes activities such as report writing, goal updates, or collaboration with your child’s school and care team.
All charges are clearly discussed with you beforehand — no surprises, ever.

💻 How do Telehealth sessions work?

Telehealth OT sessions are held over a secure video link and are just as interactive and effective as in-person therapy.
They’re especially helpful for older children, rural families, or those needing flexible scheduling.
Sessions include movement, visuals, and coaching to keep your child engaged.

🧩 What’s your therapeutic approach?

I take a neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based approach — meaning I recognise every brain as unique and valuable.
Therapy is play-based, evidence-informed, and always centred around safety, collaboration, and connection with the whole family.
